Due to authorial laziness and the lingering instability of the realm of time in Norelva, this timeline covers the basic and most important dates in the history of the world, but should not be considered as a definite and exact list.
Year -120, Peak of the Warlord Age: a number of local lords and dictators, previously clashing in consistent expansionist warfare, engage in a particularly cruel three-way war lasting 7 years, accompanied by a near apocalyptic event, the origins of which may be divine. Texts of this time suggest death tolls in the millions and several small landmasses appearing and disappearing due to the damage.
Year -55, End of the Warlord Age, Beginning of the Feudal Age: following the war and the massive loss of life, the warlords and leaders distance themselves and begin to settle in distant areas to recover, with the intent to resume combat. This intent is never fulfilled, and instead, the three major nations arise: the Kingdom of Norelva, the Campir Empire and the Matriarchy of Igell.
Year 0, Year of the Crown: the beginning of recorded time is generally considered to be the moment at which Elias Noret, father of current king Evander Noret, officially established the Kingdom of Noret-Elv (the river of the Norets, in old Norelvan) and eventually Norelva. In general, the time of founding of Norelva matches with the recorded establishment of Igell and Campir, and as such this year is widely agreed as the starting point for modern history. Also the year of the Stewardship of the World granted to Elias Noret, leading a number of Houses.
Year 105-130, Age of Dragons: dragons inhabiting mountain ranges to the north of Norelva and hailing from arctic regions migrate following a natural event, and encounter Norelva in their path. A clash between human and dragon forces takes place, but eventually a stalemate is reached and peace accords between Elias Noret and the Dragon Lord are signed, declaring that dragons shall never be hunted again.
Year 130-200, Eternal Spring: favorable weathers and most likely divine intervention offer years of warm winters and stable springs. Agriculture and farming boom and worldwide quality of life increases massively.
Year 200-300, the Quiet Years: a resounding peace takes over the world, and a notable lack of divine intervention leaves Oras in a long bout of quiet and progress. This time is generally regarded as a sort of plateau, with no major inventions, events or incidents.
Year 310, the Scorching: the Flame of Chaos touches the fabric of the arcane, and it catches fire. Magic fails across the planes. Norelva is hit the hardest, and death tolls related to the heavy use of magic in the kingdom are among the highest. Sorcery and wizardry are cast aside in favor of a traditional lifestyle. Recovery is slow and tragic, marked by the death of King Elias Noret.
Year 330, Rise of the Dragon King: King Evander Noret, following years of instability and chaos due to the Scorching, rallies Norelva and manages to establish peace in the realm, at times resorting to brutal means and force, and wielding control of a number of dragons. Considered to be a necessary evil, the actions of the young king are bold enough to unify splintered armies and acquire the approval of the provinces and towns of the nation. Some Houses are eradicated during this time.
Year 330-460, the Age of Rebirth: a slow recovery takes place. Magic is restored due to tedious efforts by academics and sorcerers working with the blessing of the Gardener, aided by the king. Military power in the kingdom is reinstated, the economy stabilizes and eventually begins growing.
Year 460-490, the Years of Starlight: divine intervention and a stellar phenomenon cast gentle light upon the world, causing a resurgence of spiritual and artistic work. This age entails a general feeling of hope and renaissance, a growth of previously untouched fields and a beginning of technological and social progress.
Year 491-500, the War: simply referred to as "the War," this 9-year conflict between a recovered Campir Empire and the Kingdom of Norelva remains the bloodiest and most destructive war in recorded history, with battles commonly involving up to tens of thousands of troops. Magic sees a vast use for warfare much to the protest of academia and the Royal University. The Royal Army, drained of manpower, is forced to draft the elderly for support roles, and young men and women for frontline combat regardless of consent. As stated in various recordings of this time, the kingdom ran the very possible risk of annihilation.
Year 500, the Miracle: at the peak of the War, as population numbers and resources plummeted and death counts began reaching the tens of millions, King Evander Noret takes action.
Year 530 and Present, Merciful Years: after the War, the nation of Norelva finds itself barely alive, having suffered a previously unseen population-wide trauma. It takes almost twenty years of painstaking recovery aided by divine mercy, but eventually the kingdom finds itself growing once more and enjoying lasting (dubiously) peace.
